Energy Bills To Target Polluters, Contamination, Allow Underground Gas Storage

Bismarck, ND (KEYZ) The North Dakota legislature is looking to crack down on polluters and contamination events in the oil and gas industry.

One Senate bill would allow the state to penalize corporate officers considered responsible for oil and gas-related violations while another intends to make plans for cleaning up contamination. It would prompt companies to clean up contamination they create, provide money for state cleanup when no responsible company is identified, and offer liability relief to investors and developers wanting to re-purpose contaminated sites.

Regulators are also asking lawmakers to allow the underground storage of natural gas, natural gas liquids, and oil.
